Is my kit-Will enough?
Will-kits from a newsagent or post office are often dangerous:
- Legal requirements There are very particular legal requirements that Wills need to comply with in order to be valid. Failure to comply with these can be costly for your estate. It is easy to miss these requirements in a Will kit.
- Estate Planning considerations Preparing an effective Will involves a lot more than just listing who your assets go to. Consideration needs to be given to how your assets are held, what the needs of your family are, what the tax implications are of your Will.
There are surprising traps in making a Will that most people do not realise. For example, your superannuation may not pass according to either your Will or your nominated beneficiary unless special provision is made! Do you want to risk it?
